Austin Jukebox #12 with Body/Head, The Austerity Program, USA/Mexico, exhalants

Austin Jukebox in partnership with The SIMS Foundation proudly presents:

> Body/Head [MA] - Body/Head is the experimental guitar project of Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth, Free Kitten, Harry Crews, + more) and Bill Nace (an experimental/improv guitarist who has worked with numerous musicians and groups, including Thurston Moore, Paul Flaherty, Joe McPhee, James Twig Harper, + more). Formed officially in early 2012 (though they began working together in 2011), Body/Head released their first album, Coming Apart (Matador Records), in 2013, their second album, No Waves (Matador), in late 2016, and will release their third album, The Switch (Matador), on July 13th. This is currently their only Texas date and will be their first performance in Austin.

> The Austerity Program [NY] - The Austerity Program is a noise rock/alt metal duo that formed in NYC in 1997. Formed by Thad Calabrese and Justin Foley initially as Polonium in the mid-90s, the group's sound centers around the use of a drum machine. The Austerity Program released two EPs and a full length album on Hydra Head before creating their own label, Controlled Burn, to release their second album, Beyond Calculation (2014). The album would be selected by Rolling Stone Magazine for their 20 Best Metal Albums of 2014 list.

> USA/Mexico [ATX] - USA/Mexico are an Austin-based noise rock trio consisting of guitarist Craig Clouse (of Shit & Shine), drummer King Coffey (of Butthole Surfers), and bassist Nate Cross (of Marriage). The group released their debut album, Laredo (12XU/Riot Season), in June of last year.

> exhalants [ATX] - exhalants are a new noise rock trio based in Austin. Led by Steve Pike (Carl Sagan's Skate Shoes) and rounded out by Thomas Rabon (Body Pressure, Innards) and Bill Indelicato (Oozer), the band self-released their demo tape, democore, last October and are currently preparing their forthcoming debut album.

EARLY SHOW: Dawn & Dupree, Longriver

    34701440_2096437407262542_5565281548275548160_n.jpg

Dawn & Dupree is a new musical collaboration between songwriters Alex Dupree and Iva Dawn. Turns out they both lived in Austin and Houston during the same years, but they didn't properly meet until one night at a bar in Los Angeles. A shared affection for classic country and good storytelling brought them together (a little tequila didn't hurt either). Soon enough the two were sharing playlists of Nancy & Lee, George & Tammy, Conway & Loretta, and the idea for a duets project was hatched.

Iva Dawn comes from a family of Utah country singers, but she's spent the last couple years mixing up exotica and rockabilly with producer Tom Biller in her quest to become the female Scott Walker. Alex Dupree has been working on his Willie Nelson impression with the LA band Mister Paradise and releasing his own art-folk songs with the Austin label Keeled Scales. For both Dawn & Dupree, country music has always been somewhere in the list of influences; they just decided the time was right to stop running from it.

Another regular at the bar had a bunch of recording equipment, and pretty soon Dawn & Dupree found themselves holed up in a cabin in Crestline, CA with a couple songs, a hot band, and four days to try and make some music. The two songs on this 7", "It's Only Me" and "California Worryin'" came from that session, and there's more on the way.

Longriver was born David Longoria in Houston, Texas. He is a singer, songwriter, and poet living in Austin. Influenced by the songs of Bob Dylan, Charley Patton, John Fahey, Rolling Stones, Hank Williams, etc., Longriver plays guitar and harmonica.

"In his former quartet The Black, David Longoria unraveled a Dylan-esque twang and rolling lyrics bursting through a rockabilly energy. Now, the Austin songwriter and poet (Longriver) turns towards an intimate folk. The intricate guitar work that highlighted last year’s demos and cassette-only debut hearkened John Fahey as Longriver spins mesmerizing acoustic soundscapes."

The brothers in AVANTIST have dedicated the last decade of their lives making music that proves to fully live up to this idea of the avant-garde. Their music revolves around the philosophy that art is and should be progressive, dynamic, and unconventional, and that creativity is something to incorporate into every single aspect of life. They continuously strive to challenge themselves as artists, as well as to challenge their listeners.

Following their self-titled debut LP, AVANTIST gears up to drop Terasoma, their new EP with No Trend Records. In contrast to the two years they spent on their first LP, within the span of a month, AVANTIST forced themselves to shape, write, record, mix, and master all new music with the help of long-time friend and producer Yuki Tasaka. In an unfamiliar work process with a set goal in mind, the brothers were energized and unflinching in their creation. As hard-hitting as ever, AVANTIST has made a successor that is as every bit raucous and infectious as their previous release. This is their next step. Excited to adapt and eager to continue creating, the AVANTIST are moving forward.

This Summer, Avantist are touring to promote their newest EP which will be released under No Trend Records on vinyl and all streaming platforms June 21st, 2018.
