Jukebox Cinema Presents: A Night With Christy Karacas

Introducing the debut of Jukebox Cinema at Beerland on Sunday, June 3rd! Join us for a screening of selected works by animator Christy Karacas, the creator of the Adult Swim series Ballmastrz: 9009 and Superjail!, followed by a Q&A with Mr. Karacas. Jukebox Cinema is hosted by filmmaker Matt Conboy.

Christy Karacas studied film and animation at the Rhode Island School of Design and his work has appeared in screenings and festivals around the world including the Annecy International Film Festival, Ottawa International Film Festival, New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival, Glas Animation Festival, P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, Deitch Projects, Galleri Loyal, Tribeca Film Festival, MTV’s ‘Cartoon Sushi’, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim and also in Vice and Playboy Magazine. With over 20 years of professional animation industry experience he has worked for MTV Animation, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Comedy Central, Vice, and Titmouse Inc. as well as directed music videos for bands like MGMT and ROYAL BLOOD. He co-created, directed and executive produced the Adult Swim series “Superjail!” which ran for four seasons and also executive produced and directed the series “Robotomy” on Cartoon Network. His new series “Ballmastrz:9009” that he created, directs and executive produces for Adult Swim premiered in April 2018. In his spare time he teaches animation as an adjunct professor at the Rhode Island School of Design.


Matt Conboy is a filmmaker based in New York who has been writing scripts and making movies since he was 13. He studied writing and film at the New School. In 2007 he was the co-founder of Death By Audio, a music venue in Brooklyn. He has directed several narrative short films and the feature length documentary Goodnight Brooklyn which premiered in competition at the SXSW Film Festival and has won awards at festivals around the world. His commercial work includes clients like Brisk, Lincoln Financial and Bloomberg. He is currently working on his debut narrative feature film.
