Mr. Lewis & The Funeral 5, Big Lazy (NY), Alexander & The Nobles

05.26.19.jpg

NYC’s gritty trio BIG LAZY has flourished for 20 years, playing its singular brand of noir and twang and creating film music. Big Lazy founder Stephen Ulrich is the composer for the HBO series Bored to Death.

Big Lazy’s upcoming release Dear Trouble (Fall 2019) dwells in the landscape of noir Americana. With a nod towards classic guitar instrumentals and a fiery performance style, the new album captures the essence of the trio’s legendary live shows. The new album (not the live show!!!) features luminaries of the NYC music scene - Marc Ribot (Tom Waits, Ceramic Dog), Steven Bernstein (Sex Mob), Peter Hess (Philip Glass ensemble) and Marlysse Rose Simmons (Miramar, Bio Ritmo)

Mr. Lewis & The Funeral 5 are the masters of macabaret.
“... Before the World Beat You Down filters sadness through the band's cabaret rock lens. That doesn't mean bombastic balladry, though. Instead, frontman Greg Lewis takes gloom for a spin on the dance floor by blending the jaunty waltzes of Weimar Berlin with a blues-infected roots dive.- Michael Toland, Austin Chronicle
